...the column for hounds with trouble at Home...
Hi Billy,
My name is Freddie and I have just left my racing kennels and been re-homed
(that's what these humans call it), and I heard that you have just been through
this re-homing scene as well.
I want to let you know how I'm getting on and maybe you can give me a few
tips on what to do and not do!
My humans are very kind people although they did shout at me at first when
I cocked my leg, boy was I frightened, what was I doing wrong?, I just wanted
to go for a wee, but I think I got things wrong, I mean in the kennels it's
just hop off your bed have a wee and hey back onto your bed. My humans
tell me I should have gone outside and not in the lounge!!! They were very
upset at shouting at me though as I was very scared so now they don't shout
they just tell me off, but I am getting better and it's only been a week and
I can go all night without having to go for a wee. I am really proud of myself.
I share my new family with two very lovely girls, I hear you have a lady in
the house as well, my two ladies are Lucy & Lady. Lucy can be a bit grumpy
especially when I try to pinch her chew bone, and Lady - well she's ok - I
think me and her will be play buddies before long.
In the day I am allowed to stay in the lounge, I have a lovely view, two sofa's
and a big duvet, I can see the sea and lots of things around me. You see the
lounge is two floors up so what a great viewing platform, lots of looking
(no cats around yet though) only mating seagulls at the moment they are a
bit strange and very noisy.
When it's bed time I have to sleep downstairs, (just in case I have an accident)
- wow! I have a lovely leather sofa, and a big bed with a lovely quilt in
it, mind you my second night I was a bit naughty and wee'd all over my quilt,
I was told off (again) and I must say I have not done it since, I kind of
like the sofa, so leave the quilt alone (I am learning very quickly).
So what is life like at your new home, and how is your lady friend? Have you
been told off, or are you learning quickly too? These humans are softies once
you know all the tricks - you know what I mean (roll on your back, feet in
the air, or snuggle up to them on the sofa), they soon forget that little
accident you had earlier.
I must say living with these humans is pretty good, you get lots of loves,
and your tummy tickled if you lie on your back. I've got them wrapped around
my little finger (paw) and it's only been a week - YAHOO! I love my new home
and my new found family.
I hope you let me know how you are getting on, it would be nice to hear your
story, and of course any tricks you may have learnt.
Bye for now
A very happy and content Freddie

Hello Freddie,
Thanks for the mail - apologies
for the delay, cannot get Dad off the computer. The weeing thing was a problem
for me, I mean when a chaps got to go you just go, lifting my leg up Dads
armchair wasn't a good idea, or watering the landing, I have learnt to ask
now. Food has been a problem - how about you? They expected me to eat something
called Wafcol and they got excited because it was beef flavoured! Well I
sorted that, when I started to lose weight Mom panicked - I heard her talking
to Tony (diamond geezer) I don't know what he said but it worked, now I
get a small amount of Wafcol (they want to use it up) brown bread, and either
chicken or best premium beef mince. Breakfast is good at the moment - cornflakes,
first week Iceland economy (honestly). Bonnie who lives with me is
a timid thing, a bit of a copy cat, talking of which, I am shattered today
- been on cat watch most of the day, pesky things. I had better go, need
my sleep. A couple of chums are over tomorrow for food and drink, will let
you know what happens.
